“The splendid combination of grasses, trees, clouds and mountains",“The casement frames the west mounts capped with perennial snow”,these ancient poems are engraved with the historical imprint of the great beauty of Chengdu. In today's Chengdu, there is Heming Tea House in People's Park,a rare relic of Sansu calligraphy in Tazishan Park, and the Huanhuaxi Park is full of Du Fu's poetic charms.
Nowadays,"the park city under the snow-capped mountain and Chengdu-a city of contentment and happiness"not only attract thousands of tourists, but also become one of the reasons why many"Chengdu drifters"fall in love with this city.
This year marks the fifth year of Li Cha,an international student from France living in Chengdu. In the past five years,he has witnessed the"metro line diagram becoming more and more dense, more and more parks built and streets becoming more and more beautiful in Chengdu".He has grown from a Chinese beginner who could not distinguish between"residence permit"and"detention permit",almost making jokes at the police station,to an excellent postgraduate who can communicate freely in Chinese and won prizes in Chinese competitions.
Whenever talking about Chengdu,Li Cha always praises the city without hesitation:"Chengdu is very'comfortable'and a vibrant city, and I love her very much.If you like beautiful scenery and delicious food, you must come to Chengdu!"
Li Cha won the third prize in "My Story of Chinese Hanzi" Finals.
Love at the first sight.
Li Cha fell in love with Chengdu at first sight, which could even be traced back to 40 years ago before he was born.
In 1981,Chengdu and Montpellier,France, became sister cities, which was the first pair of international sister cities between China and France. In the next 40 years, the two cities interacted frequently in the fields of economy, culture, education, and health, and each set up a primary school named after the other city.Born and raised in Montpellier,Li Cha gradually became curious about Chengdu,a Chinese city that often appeared in his vision. He majored in applied foreign languages in college. In addition to English, most students would learn a second foreign language.Li Cha decided to focus on Chinese.
In 2016,Li Cha took advantage of the summer vacation of his sophomore year to study in Beijing. When in China for the first time, the ancient buildings with red walls and black tiles, the fragrant roast duck and instant boiled meat aroused his curiosity. But he still missed Chengdu. After a month of study tour in Beijing,he said goodbye to his friends and went to Chengdu alone, starting a journey of exploration.
In Chengdu,Li Cha stayed in a youth hostel with eight bedrooms, living with the roommates for budget travel and backpackers from all over the world. When back from the trip,we gathered together to communicate with each other in English with various accents and poor Chinese. Some people fell in love with Chengdu food, some were"cute"by the round pandas, and some were amazed at the face changes of Sichuan Opera...What attracted Li Cha was the large and small parks all over Chengdu.
When in France,Li Cha liked to have a picnic in the park, read books and listen to music with friends. As a"senior park enthusiast",he has been to more than ten parks in Chengdu in a month and summarized the beauty of Chengdu parks:"French parks are mostly for leisure, while many parks in Chengdu are related to celebrities with historical allusions."
Li Cha likes Wangjianglou Park the best. This park was built in memory of the poetess Xue Tao in Tang Dynasty.Xue Tao loved bamboo all her life and praised bamboo for its"modesty and self-reliance"and"boldness and vitality".Later generations planted more than 460 kinds of bamboo in the garden, bringing cool and refreshing air even in hot summer.Ascending to the Wangjiang Tower and gazing into the distance,Chengdu will present you a vast expanse of verdant green with snow-capped mountains looming in the distance. The rumored"Park City"finally becomes the real scene in Li Cha's eyes.
"Although it's tacky to say so,I fell in love with China and Chengdu all of a sudden,"said Li Cha.After returning to france,he wrote a graduation thesis on the theme of Chinese parks and made up his mind to go to China again.
Li Cha was visiting Zigong Fangte Dinosaur Kingdom Park.
Keep gaining new experiences
After undergraduate graduation,Li Cha came to China as he wished. He studied Chinese at Sichuan University for a year and then studied English interpretation as a postgraduate at Chengdu University of Technology.Unlike his first arrival in Chengdu, the international student Li Cha devoted more time to learning, especially Chinese.
In addition to the school curriculum, for Li Cha,the museum cultural relics introduction is also an excellent Chinese teaching material."It is not only standard in choosing words and sentences, but also supplemented with corresponding English version to feel and experience in material object in kind".He spent his free time in various museums in Chengdu, learning word for word.He always keeps a small notebook and a pen in his pocket to write down Chinese characters, words and tips about Chinese learned in life at any time, and have a review at night.Five months later,Li Cha passed HSK6(Chinese Proficiency Test Band 6),which is considered"extremely difficult"by many foreigners.
Last year, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries hosted the 2021"My Story of Chinese Hanzi".Li Cha was encouraged by teacher to"have a try".Li Cha began to make preparation, correct pronunciation and practice presentation skills from February. After the preliminary and final rounds,he stood out from more than 3000 Chinese language enthusiasts from more than 50 countries at home and abroad and entered the top 10.In October,he went to Xining to participate in the finals."The first time he made a speech before so many audiences,he felt nervous".In the end,he won back a heavy trophy.
During the five years of studying in Chengdu,Li Cha has been gaining new life experiences:exploring the world of pandas in Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding;visiting the Winter Olympic venues in Beijing and listening to the stories behind the Winter Olympic Games...He said that the experiences of studying in Chengdu has enabled him to explore his potential."Teachers and students have always supported me,appreciated me,and encouraged me to participate in many activities, because they have enabled me to walk this far and gain so many unforgettable experiences".
A sense of security in a foreign land
Albeit being able to communicate freely in Chinese,Li Cha still wants to be more"authentic".However,it was his way of life that was more"authentic"than his Chinese.
In his spare time,Li Cha likes to go to teahouse to order a cup of covered bowl tea.Immersed in dense fragrance of tea and bustling bazaars,he falls into talk with people at the next table for a while."Many people are shy and might be a little awkward to chat with foreigners, but you can also have a pleasant chat if you take the initiative to talk with them."On his first arrival in Chengdu,he felt that Sichuan dialect was like another foreign language, and now he can understand 70%or 80%of it.
Chengdu cuisine can easily capture the stomachs of all countries, and Li Cha is no exception. He is very"addictive"to hotpot, skewered food, brain curd and rabbit head, and he also wants to try pig nose that has not been taken yet. Now,he is not satisfied with the pleasure of his taste buds.He often cooks dishes on his own, such as twice-cooked pork and shredded pork with garlic sauce.
Although he can be called"Mr.Chengdu",Li Cha is still amazed by the convenience of life."For example, online shopping is much cheaper than shopping outside, and there are many choices.Such as if you want to order takeout, all kinds of food on the platform can be delivered to your home within half an hour by moving your fingers. This will take a long time in France. Here, things become easy and convenient in daily life."
Among the thousands of reasons for staying in Chengdu,Li Cha thinks the most important is the people here."The people in Chengdu are very friendly and hospitable. As a foreigner, you will feel
the warmth when you are well received by local people."Li Cha said that Chengdu gave him a sense of security.
In the past five years,Li Cha has traveled all over Beijing,Xi'an,Chongqing,Leshan and many other Chinese cities, but his favorite city is Chengdu. To him,Chengdu is full of energy, vitality, openness and inclusiveness:"People enjoy a leisurely life.At the same time, there are many college students here, making the city dazzling and vibrant."
Li Cha,going to graduate this year, was reluctant to leave Chengdu,so he had the next step planned in advance. He said that Chengdu has given him more possibilities, and he also looks forward to the days in Chengdu in the future.
Why Chengdu?
Some people answer the question of the snow-capped mountains and city parks, others say the hotpot and skewered food and some more see a broader stage and a brighter future here...All kinds of answers come down to the fact that they all point to Chengdu's hard core talent policy system, land of innovation and habitable living environment. The youth who choose Chengdu are also injecting surging vitality and power into the construction and development of Chengdu.
The city thrives because of the gathering of young people, and young people grow owing to the city.In the"two-way rush"for mutual promotion and common growth between Chengdu and young people, young people live in amity of the city and achieve success with the city.
Chengdu is becoming a dream city for young talents.
