Stewart Maginnis, deputy director-general of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, has praised China's progress in nature conservation and ecological restoration, saying that the country is offering the world a new paradigm for coexistence between humanity and nature.

He made the remarks recently in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, during the just-concluded Nature-based Solutions Summer School — an event bringing together more than 40 experts from different countries to discuss how nature and healthy ecosystems can be used to address societal challenges while benefiting both people and nature. The event ran from May 26 to June 4.

Hu Xiaotong in Guangzhou and Guo Yuhe in Beijing contributed to this story.
