Beijing, China — The African Diplomatic Corps in Beijing officially announced the launch of the 2026 Africa Day Cultural Festival at a press conference held on May 11 at the Embassy of Somalia in China.
Senior representatives of the African Diplomatic Corps in Beijing and ambassadors from multiple African countries attended the press conference.
As part of this year’s Africa Day celebrations, the Africa Day Cultural Festival will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Jintai Museum, Chaoyang Park, Beijing.
This year’s festival carries special historical significance as it coincides with two important milestones: the 70th anniversary of China-Africa diplomatic relations and the Year of China-Africa People-to-People Exchange. Designed to celebrate the richness, diversity, creativity, and opportunities of the African continent, the festival also aims to further strengthen friendship, mutual understanding, and people-to-people connectivity between China and Africa.
The event comes shortly after China expanded its zero-tariff treatment on May 1 to cover all 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic ties, a move expected to create new opportunities for Africa to boost exports and industrialization amid global headwinds of protectionism.
Jointly organized by African embassies in China, the festival will feature country pavilions from across the continent, showcasing both Africa’s traditional heritage and contemporary creativity. Activities and exhibitions will cover fashion, visual arts, crafts, tourism, music and dance, African cuisine, innovation, and investment promotion.
Visitors can also enjoy interactive cultural experiences, including drumming performances, traditional games, painting activities for children, family-friendly cultural programs, and business and investment networking opportunities.
The event is free and open to the public, welcoming students, families, businesses, media representatives and other visitors to experience Africa’s cultural diversity and celebrate China-Africa friendship.
