The Beijing edition of the 2026 Malbec World Day was held at the Garden Theater of JinShang·Yuan under the theme “When Malbec Met JinShang·Yuan.” Hosted by the Embassy of Argentina in China and supported by JinShang·Yuan, the event brought together nearly 500 wine industry professionals, diplomats, importers, and wine enthusiasts for an afternoon that combined wine culture, artistic performance, and cross-cultural dialogue.

Transforming the Garden Theater into an immersive Argentine wine landscape, the event featured more than twenty leading wineries from Argentina, offering guests a journey through the country’s diverse terroirs and winemaking traditions. From Catena Zapata and Colomé to Rutini and Susana Balbo, wineries from Mendoza and Salta presented a broad spectrum of Malbec expressions, reflecting the grape’s distinctive character across varying altitudes and regions.

His Excellency Marcelo Suárez Salvia, Ambassador of Argentina to China, addressed the gathering, describing Malbec as Argentina’s cultural calling card and “a ticket to new experiences.” He praised the setting created by JinShang·Yuan, noting that the garden’s greenery and design-forward atmosphere closely echoed this year’s global theme, “Your Malbec, Your Call.” Within the JinShang setting, wine became more than a standardized product, evolving instead into a medium for personal connection, conversation, and cultural resonance.

In her remarks, Ms. Lilian Tian, founder and chief designer of JinShang, connected Malbec’s journey with JinShang’s broader cultural philosophy. She described Malbec as “a gentle, graceful woman of the East” — originating in France before taking root in Argentina’s high-altitude landscapes, where it evolved into a character uniquely its own. “Every being, indeed every people, can be like Malbec: rooted in native cultural soil, heart open to the world, embracing diverse civilizations, until they grow into a presence uniquely, authentically themselves,” she said.

Lilian noted that JinShang has always viewed space as a vessel for storytelling and cultural exchange. Drawing a parallel between terroir and architecture, she emphasized that just as Malbec reveals different expressions at different altitudes, JinShang seeks to create a platform where cultures and creators can articulate their own identities through space, design, and experience.

The cultural dimension of the event unfolded through music and dance performances inspired by Argentina’s artistic traditions. A piano performance by a nine-year-old musician introduced a light and intimate atmosphere, while a live Argentine tango performance later energized the venue with the rhythm and emotional intensity associated with the Pampas and Mendoza’s wine culture. The choreography’s shifting tension and release echoed the structure of an aged Malbec — firm and expressive before softening into a lingering finish.

The gathering also recognized importers and promoters whose continued efforts have contributed to the growth of Argentine wine culture in China over the past year. Amid conversations surrounding industry resilience and renewed optimism, the event highlighted the importance of long-term commitment and cultural continuity. Organizers noted that, much like JinShang·Yuan’s ongoing investment in cultivating enduring value through space and community, persistence itself has become a defining part of the industry’s spirit.

As the evening drew to a close, “When Malbec Met JinShang·Yuan” was framed not simply as a wine-tasting event, but as a dialogue between terroir, culture, and aesthetics. Through wine, music, design, and conversation, the gathering reflected JinShang·Yuan’s continuing vision of creating spaces where different cultures can meet, resonate, and evolve together.
