Thanks largely to the popularity of domestic films, the total volume of China's box office revenue this summer has climbed to 11.966 billion yuan (around $1.67 billion), an increase of 2.76 percent compared to the same period last year. The number of moviegoers during the summer also increased, jumping 12.75 percent to reach 321 million.

The top three films in terms of box office revenue are all domestic productions. "Dead To Rights" reaped the highest rewards, raking in 2.89 billion yuan at cinemas, followed by "Nobody" with 1.455 billion yuan, and "The Shadow's Edge," which banked earnings of 879 million yuan.
To meet diverse public tastes, over 100 movie releases covering a variety of themes – from history and suspense to action, comedy, and animation – were screened during the summer holiday period from June 1 to August 31.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Films based on real historical events, such as "Dead To Rights," "Dongji Rescue," and "Mountains and Rivers Bearing Witness," presented the Chinese people's wartime struggles from various perspectives, highlighting their enduring spirit of resistance.
A host of highly anticipated films are soon to hit Chinese cinemas later this month, including the movies "731," "Shenzhou 13," and "Red Silk."
